Softball Recap: Yutan-Mead Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Yutan-Mead nor Fort Calhoun made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Patriots fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 3-2. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pioneers earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

Jersey Siske spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordyn Campbell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Yutan-Mead's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Fort Calhoun, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yutan-Mead will take on Ralston at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2.2, the Rams 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Fort Calhoun, they will face off against Central City at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
