Football Recap: Friona Takes a Loss

Friona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 34-21 to the Abernathy Antelopes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chieftans of the 34-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Friona still got an impressive performance from Iram Gonzalez, who rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Friona's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Abernathy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Friona will head out to square off against Farwell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Abernathy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against New Home at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The contest will give the Antelopes their first taste of in-conference action this season.
