Softball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton dropped down to 13-14 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of Scotland County by a score of 4-3. Canton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Scotland County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

As for Scotland County, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Scotland County's part, Makenna Musgrove spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Scotland County's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Frederick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Canton will be playing at home against Louisiana at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Scotland County, they will venture away from home to take on Highland at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
