Soccer Game Preview: Fairfax vs. University

Fairfax hasn't had much luck against University recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Fairfax challenge the University at 4:30 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Fairfax's offense. They lost 5-0 to Venice on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 517th, while the Gondoliers are ranked 195th).

Meanwhile, University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westchester.

University's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Fairfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-2.

Everything went Fairfax's way against University when the teams last played back in January, as Fairfax made off with a 6-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfax since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
