Softball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sioux City East Black Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Black Raiders this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-0 defeat back in June.

Jocelyn Ridder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lincoln saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Townstead, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 5-27. As for Sioux City East, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 14-10 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Black Raiders beat Lincoln by a score of 14-7 later that day.
