Olympian falls despite big games from Alyssa Martin and Asia Darcuiel

Recap: Olympian Eagles vs. Bonita Vista Barons

The Olympian Eagles lost against the Bonita Vista Barons two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Olympian took a serious blow against Bonita Vista, falling 63-32. While losing is never fun, Olympian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Bonita Vista is ranked 155th).

Olympian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Asia Darcuiel, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Alyssa Martin who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds. Darcuiel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Collins, who scored two points along with six rebounds.

Mahliya Wilson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bonita Vista, scoring 29 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Wilson hasn't dropped below 19 points for six straight games. Bayanai Cordova was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Olympian and nudges their season record down to 13-13. As for Bonita Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season.

Olympian will be playing at home against Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Eastlake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday. As for Bonita Vista, they will be playing at home against Mater Dei Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bonita Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 462 points over their last seven contests.
