Softball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Severance's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Severance saw some tournament action on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Mead Mavericks 7-5.

Katie Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 20 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Zeta Gattis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzy Henneke, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Severance was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mead only posted a batting average of .077.

Severance is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Mead, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-12.

Severance didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against Pueblo Central on the 18th. As for Mead, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-9 victory against Discovery Canyon on the 18th.
