Baseball Recap: Valwood Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

Valwood's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Tiftarea Academy Panthers with a sharp 7-0 victory. Considering the Valiants have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Asher Wells was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Wesley Blanchard looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Wells wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dustin Gibbs, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Chase Helfer was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Valwood pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Tiftarea Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valwood will take on Community Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tiftarea Academy, they will face off against Brookwood at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookwood will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
