Soccer Game Preview: Costa Mesa vs. Katella

The Costa Mesa Mustangs will take on the Katella Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Costa Mesa will be strutting in after a victory while Katella will be coming in after a defeat.

Costa Mesa's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Ocean View 7-0. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Seahawks are ranked 874th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Katella after they claimed the first goal on Tuesday, however, they wouldn't score again. They fell just short of Valencia by a score of 2-1.

Costa Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for Katella, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5-4.

Costa Mesa beat Katella 2-0 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will Costa Mesa repeat their success, or does Katella have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
