After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Brawley, Calipatria was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Southwest EC Eagles by a score of 42-34. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 40-28 win two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Southwest EC saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jayzelle Cortez posted 11 points.

Calipatria has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-22 Southwest EC and 3-18 Southwest EC (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27.6% over those games). As for Southwest EC, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 15 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season.

Looking ahead, Calipatria will challenge Holtville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwest EC, they will face off against Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brawley has seven straight victories, Southwest EC has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
