Monarchs get boost in quest to return to Open Division title game for fourth straight season.
Girls basketball standout
Devin Cosgriff has transferred to
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), according to a story in
the San Jose Mercury News.
Cosgriff, a four-star prospect who previously attended
Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), gives Mitty more firepower in its quest to keep up with Southern California powers
Etiwanda and
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth).
Etiwanda, last year's MaxPreps National Champion, has beaten Mitty in the past two Open Division state title games. The Eagles were No. 1 in the way-too-early MaxPreps Top 25 for 2024-25 while Mitty was No. 2 and Sierra Canyon No. 14.

Under Hall of Fame coach Sue Phillips, Mitty has reached the Open Division title game in three straight seasons, losing to a
Juju Waktins-led Sierra Canyon team in 2021.
Cosgriff, a 5-foot-10 guard, helped O'Dowd to the Division I title game last season, falling 52-40 to
Bishop Montgomery (Torrance). Her jumper in the final seconds of the NorCal final lifted the Dragons to the state championship game.
"She's a great kid, and I wish her the best of luck," Bishop O'Dowd coach Malik McCord told the Mercury News.
It also helps the Monarchs keep pace with Etiwanda. The Eagles lost MaxPreps All-American and state Player of the Year
Kennedy Smith to graduation but return seniors
Puff Morris and
Grace Knox.
