Basketball Recap: West Shamokin Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact West Shamokin can now relate to. They were outmatched by the River Valley Panthers and fell 60-27. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while the Panthers are ranked 26th).

River Valley was led to victory by Ava Persichetti and Morgan Cole. Persichetti posted 17 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds, while Cole dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Persichetti's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Maddie Twinchek, who went 5-for-9 en route to 11 points and seven boards.

West Shamokin's defeat was their 12th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-17. As for River Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 25-0.

West Shamokin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for River Valley, they will welcome Cambria Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. River Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
