Football Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

The Cibola Cougars will head out to square off against the Piedra Vista Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedra Vista took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Cibola, who comes in off a win.

Cibola is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Farmington, who was ranked 21st at the time (Cibola was ranked 11th). The Cougars took down the Scorpions 28-10 on Saturday.

The critical scores for Cibola came from Hayes Baum, Damian Suarez, Jeremiah Gutierrez, and Emmanuel Apodaca.

Meanwhile, Piedra Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 54-0 loss at the hands of Cleveland. The shutout was out of character for the Panthers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in September.

Cibola's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3. As for Piedra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Cibola was dealt a bruising 36-0 defeat at the hands of Piedra Vista when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Cougars, Brig Keiser (who rushed for 268 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 12.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 37 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
