Football Preview: Lyons Lions vs. Ellsworth Bearcats

The Lyons Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Ellsworth Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyons, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Ellsworth's (thus far) undefeated season.

Lyons managed to slip by Republic County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Lions came up short against the Buffaloes on Friday, falling 30-8.

Even if they lost, Lyons' defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Xander Young was especially locked on to Republic County's QB and sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Ellsworth took on Minneapolis last Friday. The Bearcats claimed a resounding 47-14 win over the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bearcats have posted against the Lions since October 7, 2016.

Lyons better keep an eye on Tucker Goss. He was instrumental in Ellsworth's win, rushing for 300 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Goss is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 133 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Carson Jacobs, who rushed for 104 yards and one TD.

Ellsworth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 446 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 362 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Lyons' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ellsworth, their record now sits at 3-0.
