Sierra Canyon climbs to No. 2 after winning Redondo/Mira Costa Power Classic as runner-up Archbishop Mitty jumps into top 10.

Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) jumped back to No. 2 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings after winning the Redondo/Mira Costa Power Classic. The Trailblazers beat No. 18 Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 2-1 in the semifinals and then bested No. 10 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 2-1 for the title.

Hanna McGinest and McKenna McIntosh each had eight kills in the final while Lucky Fasavalu had 22 assists in the championship game.

Makenna Crosson and Chayse Courtney earned all-tournament honors for Mitty, which has reached the Open Division state final each of the past two seasons. The last time the Monarchs won a state title was 2017 under coach Bret Almanzan-Cezar, who now coaches at Rocklin (Calif.), which could be among a few who could pose a challenge to Mitty to come out of Northern California.

Perhaps no one in the country has played a tougher schedule than Sierra Canyon (33-3), which has 11 wins over teams that have been ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 this season. The three losses are to No. 1 Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas) in pool play at the Ann Kang Invitational, No. 11 Redondo Union (Redondo Beach) in the Ann Kang semis and No. 4 Marymount (Los Angeles) in the Durango Fall Classic final.

The Trailblazers have one final ranked showdown before the postseason. That comes Tuesday on the road against league foe Marymount.

No. 23 Mercy (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and No. 25 Seton (Cincinnati, Ohio) are the lone newcomers to this week's rankings.

Mercy took third at the McAuley Asics Challenge, beating No. 19 Marist (Chicago, Ill.) 25-21, 15-25, 25-23 and No. 24 Divine Savior Holy Angels (Milwaukee, Wis.) 25-17, 15-25, 25-23.

The Saints, meanwhile, are the tops in Ohio and led offensively by junior Charley Moeddel (228 kills), and seniors Nattie Slusher (192 kills) and Callie Combs (141 kills). Setters Kirsten Kemper and Penelope Reisman have combined for more than 600 assists.

The sectional pairings were set in Indiana this week and Sectional 8 (Zionsville) is stacked. Led by No. 12 Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.), it also features 21-1 Westfield (Ind.) which sits just outside the MaxPreps Top 25. It also boasts a 17-11 Zionsville (Ind.) squad with four hitters with more than 150 kills and senior setter Averie Leblanc with 1,046 assists.
