Softball Game Preview: Shaw Raiders vs. Columbus Blue Devils

The Shaw Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Columbus Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Shaw easily dispatched Jordan on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Raiders fell just short of Brookstone by a score of 6-4 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Raiders have suffered since August 10, 2024.

Skylar Lockhart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Michayla Bledsoe made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis McClain, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Columbus played against Cairo on Saturday and lost via forfeit.

Shaw's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Columbus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

Shaw beat Columbus 5-2 in their previous matchup back in September. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
