Softball Recap: Washington-Wilkes Comes Up Short

Washington-Wilkes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-3 to the Oglethorpe County Patriots, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 on Tuesday.

Molly Dawson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Rylie Welborn, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Washington-Wilkes' defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Oglethorpe County, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Washington-Wilkes will be playing at home against Elbert County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oglethorpe County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something Oglethorpe County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
