Basketball Game Preview: Castilleja Gators vs. University Red Devils

The Castilleja Gators and the University Red Devils will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Castilleja's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so University's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Castilleja will head into Thursday's matchup on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Harbor on Thursday. Castilleja blew past Harbor 45-18. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Pirates are ranked 1020th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Antonia Vlahos continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Agnich, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, University entered their tilt with Marin Catholic two weeks ago with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 57-50 win over the Wildcats.

University's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Castilleja, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
