Basketball Recap: Live Oak Comes Up Short

After soaring to 62 points the game before, Live Oak was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They came up short against the Del Mar Dons, falling 42-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Acorns have suffered since December 12, 2024.

Zoey Hinkle was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards for Del Mar. Hinkle also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Del Mar is 9-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kimani Yarber, who posted six points in addition to nine rebounds and five assists.

Live Oak's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 17-7. As for Del Mar, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-9.

Live Oak didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-10 win against Hill on the 17th. As for Del Mar, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 37-27 loss against Capuchino on the 21st.
