Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Wins Going Away Against Apalachee

Walnut Grove never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Apalachee Wildcats with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Apalachee's batters probably weren't too happy with Sean Martell, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (he gave up a single walk). Martell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sam Martell was a standout: he scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gray Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Walnut Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Apalachee, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Looking ahead, Walnut Grove will be playing in front of their home fans against Flowery Branch at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Apalachee, they will face off against Whitefield Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
