Preview: South Spartans vs. Tehachapi Warriors
South is 0-6 against Tehachapi since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The South Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tehachapi Warriors at 6:30 p.m. South will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1074th, while Tehachapi is ranked 153rd).
South suffered their biggest defeat since November 13, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by North 57-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat South has suffered against North since February 6, 2019.
Meanwhile, Tehachapi stacked a 17th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Arvin 63-28 on the road. Tehachapi is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 13 straight.
Tehachapi's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Walden, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Kennedy Perkins was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
South has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Tehachapi, they pushed their record up to 19-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
South was taken down by Tehachapi 72-15 in their previous matchup on January 9th. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point South was down 34-8.
