Basketball Recap: Maxwell Comes Up Short

Maxwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a hard 41-27 fall against the Overton Eagles. The game marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Loss or not, Maxwell got some senior leadership from Kristyn Cheek and Madelyn Flock. Cheek dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds, while Flock posted ten points along with seven boards and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Flock.

Overton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gracen Hughes, who went 6-for-11 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daisy Ryan, who earned six points in addition to 11 boards and five steals.

Maxwell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Overton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Maxwell will head out to square off against Maywood/Hayes Center at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Overton, they will head out on the road to take on Brady at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
