Baseball Recap: Sprayberry Comes Up Short

Sprayberry had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it six. They fell just short of the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellow Jackets have suffered since March 18, 2025.

For Kennesaw Mountain's part, Ryad Sheikh tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, Sheikh posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025.

On the hitting side, Aaron Higgins and Nate McLaughlin did most of the damage at the plate: Higgins went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while McLaughlin went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Higgins a new career-high. Austin Carter was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Sprayberry will head out on the road to face off against Denmark at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kennesaw Mountain, they will be playing at home against Campbell at 5:55 p.m. on Friday.
