Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Starts Season with Victory Against Central Carolina Academy

Cornerstone Charter gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Central Carolina Academy Eagles 63-16. The team accrued 49 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Cornerstone Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charles Walker led the charge by shooting 77% from the field en route to 24 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Walker is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Shaffrey, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Despite the loss, Central Carolina Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jax Gaddy posted ten points.

Central Carolina Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Cornerstone Charter has already played their next contest, a 61-47 loss against Chatham Charter on the 18th. As for Central Carolina Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 85-30 defeat against Neuse Charter on the 18th.
