Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Valencia's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Valencia unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 53-46 to the Flintridge Prep Wolves.

When it comes to explaining why Valencia lost, don't look at Cara McKell. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 11 en route to 22 points. McKell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Keira McLaughlin, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Valencia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Valencia's loss dropped their record down to 20-4. As for Flintridge Prep, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Valencia and Flintridge Prep should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Valencia (ranked 69th) will meet West Ranch (ranked 740th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valencia is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. Similarly, Flintridge Prep will challenge Providence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 926 places (56 vs. 982). Valencia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.8 points per game this season.
