Football Recap: Scott Tibbals' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Porter-Gaud over Bishop England

Porter-Gaud extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-3. They received a blow as they fell 40-23 to the Bishop England Battling Bishops. The Cyclones were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Battling Bishops apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Porter-Gaud's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Scott Tibbals, who threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 42 yards. A healthy portion of Tibbals' aerial production (92 yards to be exact) went to Amir Chisolm, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Porter-Gaud, adding 11 points to the final score. All came from Hunter Thiem: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 2-for-2 kicking extra points for an additional two.

As for Bishop England, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 46.8 points this season.

Bishop England got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Quinn Mahoney out in front who threw for 201 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 52 yards and a pair of scores. Brody Tonon was another key player, gaining 133 total yards and two touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Porter-Gaud will square off against Heathwood Hall Episcopal at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders' defense has only allowed six points per game this season, so the Cyclones' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bishop England, they will take on Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
