Basketball Recap: Jean Borchardt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Faith Baptist over Desert Christian

If Faith Baptist was feeling good fresh off their 50-24 takedown of St. Monica Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Faith Baptist Contenders took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Desert Christian Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-19 back in January.

Faith Baptist lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jean Borchardt, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and five steals. She has become a key player for Faith Baptist: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 9-10 otherwise. Bekah Holland was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Desert Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makenzie Duffee led the charge by posting eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Duffee is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Williams, who had nine points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Faith Baptist's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Desert Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Faith Baptist has already played their next game, a 56-29 victory against Palmdale Academy Charter School on the 4th. As for Desert Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-38 loss against Trinity Classical Academy on the 4th.
