Staunton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Gillespie on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Miners by a score of 6-5. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Tate Powell was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lucas Coalson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Tuetken, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.

Staunton's defeat dropped their record down to 17-13-1. As for Gillespie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-7-1.

Staunton has already played their next game (against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Gillespie, they will take on Marquette Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
