Basketball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Woodside Wildcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the San Mateo Bearcats duke it out with the Woodside Wildcats at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday... San Mateo will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

If San Mateo beats Woodside with 51 points on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. San Mateo strolled past Sequoia with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 51-34. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while the Ravens are ranked 767th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Woodside's strategy against Jefferson on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Woodside blew Jefferson out of the water with a 45-17 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Wildcats had established a 20 point advantage.

San Mateo's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Woodside, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

San Mateo beat Woodside 35-27 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will San Mateo repeat their success, or does Woodside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
