Slidell has gone 8-2 against Hammond recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers will host the Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Slidell took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Mandeville with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The Tigers pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Skippers cut but never quite recovered from.
Slidell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wilbert Ricky Williams, who threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 66 yards and one score. Another rusher making a difference was Jakwan Jones, who rushed for 208 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Slidell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 278 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Hammond had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Hurricanes, posting a 49-0 win. That looming 49-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tornadoes yet this season.
Slidell better focus on containing Terin Jones and Zalen Bennett as the pair were huge in Hammond's win. Jones rushed for 63 yards and a pair of TDs, while Bennett rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in passer rating (156.3). Reginald Monroe was in the mix too, providing Hammond with three scores.
One reason for the win was Hammond's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. In that department, Elontae Beauchamp was the leader with 3.5. He has been hot, having posted two or more sacks the last seven times he's played.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Hammond, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Monroe, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Slidell's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Hammond, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-1.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Slidell has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hammond struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Slidell was taken down by Hammond 42-13 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Tigers were down 35-0.
