Basketball Recap: Zoe Mcafee's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sheldon over Laguna Creek

After flying high against Elk Grove last Wednesday, Sheldon came back down to earth. The Sheldon Huskies took a 57-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laguna Creek Cardinals on Friday. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Sheldon's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zoe McAfee, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That's the most points McAfee has posted since back in December of 2023. Saniah Wiley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Laguna Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jestine Tofi, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Tofi is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ananda Oto-Zachary, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Sheldon's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Laguna Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.

Sheldon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Laguna Creek, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cardinals challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
