Football Recap: Weslaco East Comes Up Short

After soaring to 34 points the game before, Weslaco East was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were beaten by the Flour Bluff Hornets 65-7. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 795th, while the Hornets are ranked 275th).

Aiden Gonzalez threw for 67 yards on eight of 16 attempts. Devon Burnias was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards. On the ground, Elias Rodriguez rushed for 40 yards.

It was another big night for Lucian Cruz, who threw for 368 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes for Flour Bluff. Cruz has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ransom Watson, who picked up 175 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Weslaco East now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Flour Bluff, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Coincidentally, Weslaco East and Flour Bluff will both be playing Rivera the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will host the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Hornets will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
