Baseball Game Preview: Big Walnut Golden Eagles vs. Bishop Watterson Eagles

The Big Walnut Golden Eagles will head out to square off against the Bishop Watterson Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Big Walnut sitting on five straight wins and Bishop Watterson on eight.

Big Walnut came out on top against Licking Valley on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Golden Eagles walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Panthers. Five seems to be a good number for the Golden Eagles as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Bishop Watterson faced Jonathan Alder in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Pioneers.

Luke Fivecoat was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Caden Mangini was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Michael Wozniak, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Big Walnut's record now sits at 15-6. As for Bishop Watterson, their record is now 21-3.
