Basketball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

Pioneer lost against Prospect on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pioneer Mustangs fell 56-44 to the Prospect Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while the Panthers are ranked 211th).

Sadie Slaughter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Prospect, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 16 rebounds. Slaughter's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Akeisha McDaid was another key player, putting up eight points and 13 boards.

Pioneer has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Prospect, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Pioneer has already played their next contest (against Willow Glen), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Prospect will be playing in front of their home fans against Leland at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. The timing is sure in Prospect's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home while Leland has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
