Basketball Recap: Hoover Takes a Loss

Hoover and Escondido Charter squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Hoover had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Escondido Charter Tigers 65-36. The Cardinals were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-16.

Leading Escondido Charter to victory were Azalea Vilaysing and Kami Gillis. Vilaysing went 9-for-20 on her way to 22 points and four steals, while Gillis almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Gillis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 14 games she's played. CC Goss was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Hoover dropped their record down to 15-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Escondido Charter, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-8.

Hoover does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Escondido Charter, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Escondido Charter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Central likes a good challenge.
