Football Recap: Santa Fe Comes Up Short + How To Watch

While it was all tied up 13-13 at halftime, Santa Fe was not quite Sandia's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a hard 38-19 fall against the Matadors. The Demons have struggled against the Matadors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Santa Fe lost, don't look at Jasper Nelson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Nelson showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 65 yards.

Sandia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jahleel Lewis led the charge by rushing for 90 yards and two TDs on only ten carries, while also throwing for 319 yards and one touchdown. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Lewis a new career-high. Junior Hogues was Lewis' top target, picking up 159 receiving yards and one score.

Santa Fe's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Sandia, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Santa Fe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 53-42 loss against Eldorado on the 26th. As for Sandia, they have also already played their next game, a 37-13 win against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 26th.
