Softball Recap: Mitchell Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sierra

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mitchell). They were the clear victors by a 30-17 margin over the Sierra Stallions on Tuesday. This was payback for the Marauders, who suffered a 21-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Natalie Gaytan, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBI, four runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Reyna Santos, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Mitchell's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Sierra, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will host The Classical Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Marauders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Sierra, they will face off against Mesa Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
