Case dropped down to 10-8 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 7-3 to the Somerset Berkley Regional Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in April.
Lucas LaFlame was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Case saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aedan Borges, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Borges' first of the season. Another was Lucas Fabiano, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
As for Somerset Berkley Regional, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.
On Somerset Berkley Regional's side, Wyatt Brisson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The Raiders are undefeated when Brisson allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Somerset Berkley Regional let Liam Meehan and Ryan Crook run wild. Meehan got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one RBI, while Crook went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Lambert, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Looking ahead, Case will be playing at home against Diman RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 4.1, the Bengals 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Somerset Berkley Regional, they will take on Dartmouth at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
