Softball Recap: Sonoraville Now 20-1 over Last 21 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sonoraville walked away with it. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Josey Eagles an 18-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Phoenix have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lila Mullinax looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Marley Hall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Julia Patterson was another key player, earning three runs and four stolen bases.

Sonoraville is on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Josey, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sonoraville beat the Eagles by a score of 16-0 later that day.
