Baseball Recap: Round Lake Comes Up Short

Round Lake had lost seven straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-18 to make it eight. They came up short against the Wauconda Bulldogs, falling 24-7. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-3 defeat on Wednesday.

Round Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javier Rolon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another was Daniel Russ, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Wauconda, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Wauconda's side, Nick Churak looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Fostiak, who got on base in all six of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Wauconda's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-3 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Rudolph, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Coming up, Round Lake will take on Richmond-Burton at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wauconda, they will head out to challenge Grayslake Central at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
