Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Villa Rica Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Alexander Cougars duke it out with Villa Rica Wildcats at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Alexander comes in on three and Villa Rica on 19.

Alexander's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Rome 9-0.

Ethan Lower looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Micah Green was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Alexander is undefeated when Green posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Westbrook, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Villa Rica made easy work of Kennesaw Mountain on Wednesday and carried off a 12-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Villa Rica pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Alexander, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.

Everything went Alexander's way against Villa Rica when the teams last played back in March of 2016, as Alexander made off with a 16-0 win. Will Alexander repeat their success, or does Villa Rica has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
