Basketball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

Central lost against Imperial back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Central Spartans were outmatched by the Imperial Tigers and fell 64-15. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 574th, while the Tigers are ranked 141st).

Central used a three-pronged attack on offense: Janelle Thomas, Elyza Estrada, and Rhyanna Velasco-Martinez posted three points each. Thomas also led the team in rebounds with ten.

It was another big night for Nayeli Cardona, who went 10 for 19 en route to 23 points for Imperial. Another player making a difference was Elynna Jimenez, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Central and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Imperial, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Central will take on Southwest EC at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Imperial, they will face off against Vincent Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Imperial has won four straight at home, while Vincent Memorial won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
