Football Recap: West Mesa Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for West Mesa's offense. They were beaten by the La Cueva Bears 49-0 on Thursday. The Mustangs have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why West Mesa lost, don't look at Victor Aguilar Jr.. Despite the final result, he rushed for 106 yards on only 14 carries.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for La Cueva, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Mesa will challenge Atrisco Heritage Academy at 3:00 p.m. on October 4. The Mustangs will be up against the Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for La Cueva, they will take on Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Bears will be up against the Golden Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
