Basketball Recap: Pittsburg Skates Past Liberty with Ease

Pittsburg hadn't done well against Liberty recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pittsburg Pirates blew past the Liberty Lions 57-24. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Lions back in December of 2024, they had to take a 47-44 defeat.

Pittsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Yariah Asidanya, who went 7 for 15 en route to 14 points along with eight boards and six steals. Asidanya is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaqueline Martinez, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Pittsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, Liberty still got an impressive performance from Karisma Gallegos, who put up ten points. The dominant performance gave Gallegos a new career-high in points.

Pittsburg's record is now 8-11. As for Liberty, they dropped their record down to 7-13 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pittsburg will face off against San Leandro at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Ravyn Martin and Asidanya. As for Liberty, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Liberty Lions take on the Antioch Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
