Basketball Game Preview: Hueneme Vikings vs. Fillmore Flashes

The Hueneme Vikings will head out to face off against the Fillmore Flashes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hueneme comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Tuesday, Hueneme took a blow against Santa Paula, falling 79-13. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1240th, while the Cardinals are ranked 491st).

Fillmore fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They snuck past Carpinteria with a 36-32 win on Tuesday.

Fillmore's win came from a few key players Hueneme will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lucy Murillo, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqui Ordonez, who had eight points and four blocks.

Fillmore's record is now 6-15. As for Hueneme, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Hueneme suffered a grim 28-8 defeat to Fillmore when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Hueneme avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
