Baseball Recap: Augusta Prep Day Has No Trouble Against Laney

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Edmund Burke Academy, Augusta Prep Day was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Laney Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won eight games by 13 runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Scott Williams, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Gay, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Augusta Prep Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Augusta Prep Day now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Laney, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Looking ahead, Augusta Prep Day will welcome Edmund Burke Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Laney, they are taking a road trip to square off against Glenn Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
