El Monte waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 38-21 victory over the South El Monte Eagles. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 40-19 defeat the last time these two teams met.

El Monte had a senior duo take command as Aaron Rivera rushed for 161 yards while picking up 8.9 yards per carry and Alex Aleman threw for 190 yards and two TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. Rivera showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 57 yards. Isaiah Standley was in the mix as well, providing El Monte with two scores.

El Monte was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 281 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 240 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

One reason for the win was El Monte's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 12 sacks. Humberto Marin led the group effort, picking up five of those sacks all by himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten. Another thorn in South El Monte's side was Nathan Jimenez, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles.

El Monte's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for South El Monte, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.

Coming up, El Monte will square off against Gabrielino at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South El Monte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
