Basketball Recap: Drew Bennett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead La Jolla over High Tech SD

La Jolla suffered their closest defeat since December 18, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the High Tech SD Storm by a score of 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered against the Storm since December 4, 2019.

La Jolla's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Bennett, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points and four steals. Elena Farrar also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, La Jolla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

High Tech SD found their leader in freshman Poema Strong, who went 8 of 15 en route to 22 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylei Hayward, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 16 points and six rebounds.

La Jolla moved to 13-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for High Tech SD, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

La Jolla will be playing in front of their home fans against Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
