Soccer Game Preview: Wahlert vs. Xavier

The Wahlert Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Xavier Saints on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wahlert sitting on eight straight victories and Xavier on three.

On Tuesday, Wahlert beat Center Point-Urbana 3-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Wahlert's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Center Point-Urbana are ranked 132nd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Xavier). Their defense stepped up to hand Independence a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Xavier might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by three goals or more this season.

Xavier's record is now 13-3-1. As for Wahlert, they pushed their record up to 10-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Wahlert suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Xavier when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
