Basketball Recap: San Dimas Falls Short of San Juan Hills in the Playoffs

San Dimas and San Juan Hills squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but San Dimas had to settle for second. They received a blow as they fell 67-50 to the San Juan Hills Stallions. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Stallions are ranked 85th).

San Dimas lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nevaeh Verdines-O'Cain, who went 6-for-14 en route to 18 points. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Priscilla Romero was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, San Dimas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

It was another big night for Anna Shreeve, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds for San Juan Hills. Shreeve is becoming a predictor of San Juan Hills' success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is undefeated (and 10-11 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Adelyn Boberg, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 20 points.

San Dimas' loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for San Juan Hills, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-11.

San Dimas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for San Juan Hills, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-56 victory against Diamond Bar on the 15th.
